Custom Marine Exhaust Blankets & Exhaust Lagging for Fishing Vessels, Yachts and Workboats

All Temp Soft Covers, LLC builds custom removable exhaust blankets, also called exhaust lagging, exhaust insulation blankets or exhaust wrap, for boat builders, commercial fishing vessels, yachts, tugs, workboats and ships. Every blanket is made to fit your exhaust elbow, riser, manifold, turbo, muffler or dry stack. It fastens on, comes off for service, and goes back on again. We're based in Blaine, Washington, and we ship finished blankets anywhere in the United States, including anywhere in Alaska.

Quick answer: Send us photos, measurements and part numbers. The owner walks you through measuring by phone or video call, hand in hand. We build your blankets in our Blaine shop and ship them to your boat, ready for your crew or mechanic to install.

Marine exhaust parts we insulate

A hot exhaust is the biggest heat source in most engine rooms. We make removable exhaust insulation for:

  • Exhaust elbows and risers: wet and dry exhaust elbows, risers and mixing elbows, up to the point where cooling water is injected

  • Exhaust manifolds: manifold covers shaped around the ports and mounting hardware

  • Turbochargers: turbo blankets that leave room for the oil and coolant lines (see marine turbo blankets)

  • Dry stacks and exhaust piping: straight runs, bends, flex sections, flanges and penetrations

  • Mufflers and silencers: removable muffler insulation blankets

  • Generator exhaust: blankets for genset exhaust and mufflers (see generator exhaust insulation blankets)

One blanket or a full engine room, we build it.

Reusable exhaust blankets vs exhaust wrap and lagging tape

Many boats still have exhaust wrap, a fiberglass tape wound around the pipe and tied off, or permanent lagging that was built in place. Both work until somebody has to get to the parts underneath. Then the wrap gets cut off, and it rarely goes back on the way it was.

A removable exhaust blanket is a better kind of lagging:

  • Service access: Removable exhaust blanket: Unfasten it, do the work, fasten it back on. Exhaust wrap / permanent lagging: Cut off and redone, or left off.

  • Fit: Removable exhaust blanket: Made for your part from your measurements. Exhaust wrap / permanent lagging: Wound or built by hand on the boat.

  • Reuse: Removable exhaust blanket: Reusable over and over. Exhaust wrap / permanent lagging: Usually thrown away after service.

  • Appearance: Removable exhaust blanket: Clean, tailored engine room. Exhaust wrap / permanent lagging: Gets messier with every repair.

  • Fastening: Removable exhaust blanket: Straps and buckles, lacing hooks or hook-and-loop. Exhaust wrap / permanent lagging: Tie wire or clamps over tape.

Removable covers resist oil, water and vibration, and they give you personal protection from hot surfaces, heat conservation and noise reduction, all in one part you can take off.

Why insulate marine exhaust?

  • Protect the crew. A bare exhaust elbow or turbo can burn anyone working in a tight engine room.

  • Keep heat off everything else. Blankets keep radiant heat away from hoses, wiring, fuel lines and the rest of the boat.

  • Cooler engine room. Heat stays inside the exhaust instead of building up below decks.

  • Easier maintenance. Mechanics can reach the exhaust and turbo without destroying the insulation.

  • Quieter machinery. Insulation covers help damp machinery noise.

Specifications

We match the materials to your temperature and where the part sits, whether that's a dry engine room or an outdoor, wet or wash-down area.

  • Outer cloth, outdoor or wet areas and freeze protection: Grey silicone cloth. Gray outer cloth -40°F to 450°F continuous, 500°F max; used over inner insulation rated 1,000°F continuous, 1,200°F max.

  • Outer cloth, high-temperature exhaust build: Grey silicone cloth outer layer. Gray outer cloth 450°F continuous / 500°F max; shielded by the inner insulation (1,000°F continuous / 1,200°F max).

  • Hot face (inner layer touching the pipe): Stainless wire mesh. For high-temperature exhaust builds (inner insulation 1,000°F continuous / 1,200°F max).

  • Insulation core: E-glass needled mat, no chemical binders. Rated 1,000°F continuous, 1,200°F max (inner insulation).

  • Indoor / engine-room cloth: Tan cloth, inner and outer layers. For indoor and engine-room use; not made for outdoor weather.

  • Fastening: Straps and buckles, lacing hooks or hook-and-loop. Chosen for the part, where it sits and how often it comes off.

  • Fabrication: NCCER-certified fabricators. Custom designs and standard sizes.

  • Lead time: Small projects up to 2 weeks; larger projects 3–6 weeks. Depends on complexity.

How ordering works: measured by phone or video, shipped to your boat

You don't have to bring the boat to us. You don't need a site visit either.

  1. Send what you have. Photos of the part from a few angles, measurements, part numbers, drawings, and the exhaust or surface temperature if you know it. Our quote form asks for pipe size, circumference, centers for any cutouts, and heel and throat measurements on 90° elbows.

  2. Measure with the owner. The owner gets on the phone or a video call with you and goes through each measurement, hand in hand, so every number is right before anything gets built. Our measuring guide shows what to measure.

  3. We build it in Blaine. NCCER-certified fabricators make your blanket to those measurements.

  4. We ship it to you. Anywhere in Washington, the Pacific Northwest and the rest of the U.S., including Alaska fishing ports. Contact us about shipping outside the United States.

  5. Your crew installs it. We manufacture only and don't do installation. Your crew, mechanic or boatyard puts the blankets on, and they're made to be simple to take off and put back.

Who we build for

  • Commercial fishing vessels working Puget Sound, the Salish Sea and Alaska

  • Boat builders and boatyards that need OEM or repeat parts

  • Yacht and trawler owners

  • Tugs, workboats and ships

  • Mechanical and marine contractors who install but need a fabricator

Our Pacific Northwest customers include boats in Blaine, Bellingham, Seattle, Anacortes and across Western Washington.

Marine exhaust blanket FAQ

What is exhaust lagging?

Exhaust lagging is insulation fitted around a boat's exhaust: elbows, risers, manifolds, dry stacks and mufflers. It keeps the heat in, protects people from burns, and keeps heat off the rest of the engine room. Removable lagging, which we make as custom exhaust blankets, can be taken off for service and put back on.

Are your exhaust blankets removable and reusable?

Yes. Every blanket is made to come off for inspection or repair and go back on afterward. They're fastened with straps and buckles, lacing hooks or hook-and-loop, so your crew can take them off and put them back on.

What temperature can a marine exhaust blanket handle?

Our high-temperature exhaust blankets have an inner insulation rated 1,000°F continuous (1,200°F max). They use an E-glass needled mat core, a stainless wire mesh hot face and a grey silicone cloth outer layer. The gray outer cloth by itself is rated -40°F to 450°F continuous (500°F max).

How do I measure my exhaust for a blanket?

Send photos, measurements and part numbers to info@alltempsoftcovers.com or call 360-383-6857. The owner walks you through measuring by phone or video call so every dimension is right before we build. You don't need to bring the boat in.

Do you ship exhaust blankets to Alaska, and do you install them?

We ship anywhere in Alaska and nationwide. We're a manufacturer and don't do installation. Blankets arrive ready for your crew or mechanic to install. Small projects take up to 2 weeks and larger projects 3 to 6 weeks.
