Seattle runs on the water. From Ballard and Lake Union to Elliott Bay, it's home to working boats, fishing boats, liveaboards and weekend cruisers. Many of them have hot exhaust parts, pipes and fittings in a tight engine room that somebody has to work in. If you're searching for marine insulation in Seattle, you're probably after one of two things. You want to cover hot surfaces in your engine room, or you want to replace insulation that has to be cut off every time a mechanic needs access.

All Temp Soft Covers, LLC builds custom removable insulation soft covers, each made to your exact measurements, for exactly that kind of job. We're north of Seattle in Blaine, Washington, near the Canadian border, and we ship covers nationwide, so Puget Sound boats are an easy delivery. For a quick overview of what we make for Seattle-area boats, visit our Seattle marine insulation covers page.

What "removable" marine insulation means

A removable cover (also called a soft cover, insulation blanket, pad or jacket) is a fabric insulation cover sewn to fit one specific part. It wraps around the part, fastens closed, and can be unfastened and lifted off when you need to get underneath, then put back on.

That's the main difference from insulation that is wound on, glued or built in place. Those usually have to be cut away for service and redone afterwards.

What we make for Puget Sound boats

We manufacture custom removable covers for:

  • Marine exhaust parts: exhaust blankets and lagging for elbows, pipe runs and mufflers

  • Turbo blankets

  • Valve and flange jackets

  • Pipe covers

  • HVAC covers (we also build for commercial and industrial equipment on land)

Each one is made to measure from your measurements, photos and part numbers.

Why removable covers suit Seattle engine rooms

Service access. Engines need maintenance, and parts under insulation need checking. A removable cover comes off and goes back on, so a routine job doesn't turn into a re-insulating job.

Tight spaces. Engine rooms on many boats leave little room around the engine. A cover built to your part's actual shape, rather than wrap wound on by hand, can follow bends and flanges and keep clear of nearby hoses and brackets. Send us photos that show those clearances.

Wet, salty conditions. Puget Sound boats live in damp, salty air. When you ask for a quote, tell us where the part sits and what conditions it sees, so we can suggest the right build for the location.

Know your temperatures. Our inner insulation is rated 1,000°F continuous (1,200°F max), and our gray silicone outer cloth is rated 450°F continuous (500°F max). Tell us the part and how your engine runs, and we'll confirm whether that rating fits your application before we build.

We manufacture, you (or your mechanic) install

To be clear up front: All Temp Soft Covers manufactures covers. We don't install them. Covers ship to you ready to fit, and your crew, your mechanic, your boatyard or you put them on. That means you can keep working with the mechanic who already knows your boat.

Serving Seattle, Bellingham, Blaine and beyond

Our shop is in Blaine, near the Canadian border. From there we ship covers down the I-5 corridor to Bellingham and Whatcom County, the Skagit area, Everett and the Seattle waterfront. If you're farther north, see our pages for marine insulation in Bellingham and marine insulation in Blaine.

Because we ship finished covers, your boat doesn't need to be near our shop. We ship nationwide, including anywhere in Alaska. That helps when a boat winters in Seattle and works up north, or when the parts need to meet the boat somewhere else.

How to get a free quote from Seattle

You don't have to bring the boat anywhere. Here's how it works:

  1. Take photos of each part you want covered, from several angles, showing nearby hoses, brackets and other parts close to it.

  2. Take measurements such as pipe outside diameters, lengths, bend shapes and flange sizes. A first pass is fine.

  3. Find part numbers for exhaust elbows, mufflers, turbos or valves, if you have them.

  4. Send everything to info@alltempsoftcovers.com, or call 360-383-6857.

  5. Measure together. If anything is unclear, the owner will walk you through measuring by phone or video call so the cover fits when it arrives.

Our how-to-measure guide explains what to measure. When you're ready, use our free quote page.

Seattle marine insulation checklist

Before you contact us, it helps to know:

  • Which parts you want covered (exhaust elbow, pipe run, muffler, turbo, valve, flange)

  • Roughly how hot each part runs, if you know

  • Whether the part is in a dry engine room or more exposed

  • How often you or your mechanic need to get at it

  • Where the covers should ship (marina, home or business address, or a location in Alaska)
